How to Remove Stickers from Laptop ?

Did you know that you can take stickers off your laptop without damaging it?

So, you fancied the idea of making your system look attractive and decided to get a sticky label. Later, you thought it too childish. Then you resolved to take it off only to be greeted by another surprise; ‘gummy leftovers’ from your labels. Don’t be surprised. It happens to a lot of people.

In another case, if you buy a laptop and there is a sticker attached to it, you should consider if the label is for a warranty seal, serial number, or a license key. It is because these things are important, and losing them might make it difficult for you to get your PC serviced. Nevertheless, if you have decided to get rid of the sticky labels, make sure to avoid using harsh methods on your PC.

How to Get Stickers Off Your PC

Peeling off stickers is not as easy as applying one because you can't take it off. While it might also be easy for some people, others need to be cautious when removing a sticky adhesive. If you want to get rid of the signs on your personal computer, there are several ways you can do this. However, these methods differ according to the PC you are using

, such as a laptop and a MacBook.

Here, we shall be looking at ways to get the sticky label of your laptops. You have to make sure that you properly follow the directions to make the process of peeling easy.

1. Oil-Based Elements

Substances that have oil in them have been tested and prove to work well for getting rid of and loosening sticky labels from your PC. They make it easier for peeling and scraping out gummy signs. These elements include olive oil, petroleum jelly, tea tree oil, mineral oil, and properties that have moisturizing qualities.

Spread a small amount of oil with a clean cloth on the design and leave for five minutes to soak. This method is excellent for uncoated stickers but takes time for labels that are waterproof or have plastic coatings because the oil will only be able to move under the edges.

For waterproof or plastic coatings, leave enough grease on the decal for some minutes and allow it to get under your design. After this, take a plastic sticker and peel or scrape off the label. Then, immediately wipe the area with a clean cloth or rag to take away the residuals of adhesive and lube. It is because exposing it for a long time may damage or discolor the surface.

  • Avoid applying in the ports and gaps of the PC.

2. Mild Abrasives

In a situation when you do not have any solvent in your house, using a mild abrasive is advisable because it wears them away. Examples of mild abrasives are toothpaste, magic erasers, Scotch Brite pads, or baking soda paste. Abrasives work fine on new stickers as the gum is not that hard. They can also scrape the exterior of metal-cased laptops.

  • Make sure to keep a microfiber cloth when you use mild abrasives to remove labels.
  • Avoid using a harsh abrasive as it will damage the underlying surface mostly when they make your laptop from plastic materials.

3. Hair Dryers or Heat Guns

This method is the easiest and neatest way to get stickers away from your laptop. When you use a heat gun or dryer, the glue loses up itself and makes it easy for you to pull it off immediately. Use a heat gun or hairdryer that is on low setting and point it directly at your sticker for thirty to forty-five seconds.

A hairdryer or heat gun can remove all types of stickers, even the ones that are stubborn. If the sticker refuses to loosen up, try getting under the edge with a plastic scraper, credit card, or fingernail and try lifting it off. After you remove the label, clean the surface with a wet microfiber cloth and leave it to dry.

  • Make sure that you do not focus the heat on a precise spot and moving it on the edges of the sticker.
  • Always put off the hairdryer or heat gun if the heat gets uncomfortable or too much. It is because too much heat can cause damage to your PC.

4. Solvents

To remove your sticky labels from your PC, you can also make use of some solvents without leaving any glue on your system. These solvents are mostly oil-based, for example, Goo Gone, lighter Fluid, Mineral Spirits, and WD-40. They can dissolve the glue from the labels, which makes it lose and easy to peel away.

On the other hand, non-oil-based solvents can get rid of stickers on your PC slightly but not in all cases. Non-lubricant solvents that can take away sticky labels include vinegar, rubbing alcohol, acetone, and Windex.

To use this substance, first, take a ball of cotton wool or a clean cloth, dip in the solution, and spread on the edges of the label. After this, let it dry for a few minutes before cleaning the decal. Then, take a clean piece of lint-free cloth or a damp cloth to take out the remaining residual to avoid stickiness.

  • Make sure to put on gloves while observing this process. It helps to protect against skin allergies and irritations.
  • Avoid pouring the solution on the surface of your sticky label because it can enter your PC, and this might cause damage to it.

Stickers on MacBook’s

MacBook's are made from metal. Removing tickers on MacBook is quite different from that of a laptop. Apple, which is the manufacturer of MacBook, urges against using abrasives and solvents on their products, most especially to get rid of labels. They also advise against using any form of liquids or paper towels. Many people wonder why. But the reason has been that It results in damaging or scratching the exterior of the MacBook.

Apple suggests that before washing before you remove labels from your MacBook, make sure you shut the device down and take away the charging adapter from the wall outlet before cleaning.

Use a soft wet lint-free cloth or a slightly damp non-abrasive rag and gently scrub your labels. It will allow them to peel off easily. Try using your fingernails, plastic scraper, or the edge of a credit card to remove it. Once you get rid of the sticker, take a dry cloth and wipe off the residue.

However, these methods might not work well for your MacBook. Hence you can try applying minimum heat to your sticker so as not to damage the device.

  • Ensure that you use protective glasses and gloves when getting rid of labels. It will enable you to complete the task without getting harmed and keep you safe while scratching off the label.
